New York needs a stiff drink

Blog | By James Fletcher | Jun 19, 2020

In business terms, New York’s liquor stores are having a good virus. My local shop tells me not even the month of December delivers the spike in sales that the COVID lockdown has. To many New Yorkers’ relief including your correspondent‘s, booze shops were classified as an essential service. Interestingly, I have yet to find the equivalent of Majestic or a similar company that will deliver by the case. Here it tends to be sales by the bottle with distinctly non-european prices. A cheap bottle of wine is $15 (£12) and it can get very silly very quickly for pretty average fare.
