‘Almost legible.’ Those were the first words Sir Terry Wogan addressed to me and they came as something of a relief. It was 1985. We were in the greenroom of the BBC television theatre on Shepherd’s Bush Green and I had just completed my first live broadcast of his thrice-weekly TV chat show, as cue-card underling.
