A fond farewell to Baroness Trumpington

Blog | By Harry Mount | Nov 27, 2018

RIP Baroness Trumpington, who has sadly died at the age of 96.

The former Bletchley Park codebreaker and government minister received her Peer of the Year Oldie Award in 2012 for ‘standing up for senior citizens’.

In 2011, when Lord King made reference to her great old age in the House of Lords, she responded with a traditional Churchillian gesture – a gesture she repeated at the Oldie of the Year ceremony in 2012.

After Ken Clarke was made Oldie of the Year in 2012, she raised two fingers (pictured), saying: ‘I haven’t had the opportunity to salute his great honour...’

What a baroness! What a dame!
