Lady Liberty at dusk

Blog | By James Fletcher | Jun 07, 2020

Another landmark which requires no introduction is the Statue of Liberty, which was dedicated in 1886. She represented the end of their odyssey for many immigrants heading for Ellis Island. Libertas, the Roman liberty goddess, carries a tabula ansata inscribed JULY IV MDCCLXXVI - July 4, 1776 the date of US Declaration of Independence. The statue has undergone many repairs and updates over the years. The most recent is the Statue of Liberty Museum on Liberty Island which opened in May 2019.
