New York nostalgia

Blog | By James Fletcher | May 15, 2020

Built in 1946 and located in Chelsea on the corner of 10th Avenue and 22nd Street, the Empire Diner is a restaurant that has passed through various ownerships during its life. This Art Moderne structure has been restored in recent years and, until COVID, it was open for lunch and dinner. In the 90s it was a hotspot distracted by celebrity nonsense. These days, it’s a fairly-priced neighbourhood restaurant serving very good food, with outdoor seating in warmer weather. It’s featured in many films and television programmes, such as Woody Allen’s 1979 film Manhattan.
