New York under lockdown

In the spring weather, the NYPD is opting for outdoor space for its evening shift change. 6th Avenue in Soho is lined with police vehicles around 6pm for changeover. New York’s Finest wear face masks at all times on duty.

At the start of lockdown, there were concerns for the consequences of force depletion from illness and self-isolation. It didn’t come to pass. Despite a conspicuous rise in graffiti and homelessness, law and order is under control. For me, the greatest risk to life comes from motorists flying down empty streets that would normally be gridlocked.
