Remembering Honest Abe...

Blog | By James Fletcher | Jun 06, 2020

In Washington, the Lincoln Memorial designed by Henry Bacon and opened in 1922 is one of the most famous sights in the USA. It really is worth a visit, especially early on a winter’s morning when it’s likely to be deserted. The statue of Lincoln is vast, standing at 19ft and took four years to complete. Martin Luther King delivered his “I have a dream speech” from the outside steps to an audience of 250,000 in 1963. More recently, President Trump controversially (it’s a national monument) did a ‘town hall’ on Fox News in front the statue of Honest Abe - his nickname for Lincoln.
