RIP Haro Hodson, aged 97 – The Old Un

Haro Hudson's Heavy Metal cartoon for Issue 1 of The Oldie, 1992
Noel Coward by Haro Hodson

The Old Un is very sad to report the death of the great cartoonist Haro Hodson at the age of 97.

Haro had an instantly recognisable look to his cartoons, which appeared in the Daily Mail, the Observer and the Oldie. Here is his terrific cartoon of a Heavy Metal band for the first issue of the Oldie in 1992, to illustrate the article, What is Heavy Metal?, by Jessica Berens. He went on to become a regular contributor to the magazine.

What a versatile artist he was. He was also a friend of Noel Coward's and designed the poster for a production of Coward's Present Laughter.

He will be much missed.
