Today is National Cappuccino Day. James Fletcher tracks down the first Starbucks

Blog | By James Fletcher | Nov 08, 2023

At 1st and Pike in Seattle, a stone’s throw from the first Starbucks (opened in 1971), in the famous Pike Place market, is a ‘heritage equivalent’ built largely from repurposed materials as the original was. 49 years later, Starbucks is the global behemoth we all know with revenues of $25bn and nearly 300,000 staff. China (3,600), Canada (2,359), South Korea (1,080), UK (884), Japan (1,415) are their largest overseas markets. Free wi-fi is available at all US locations. There are many locations in New York, as well as a vibrant offering of independent stores offering the antidote to corporate America.
