Yesterday, some lucky punters bought some of the terrific pieces of masonry from York Minster. Though they're decayed, they're still exceptionally beautiful, dating back to the original medieval building and the Victorian restorations.
All the time, though, the masonry yard at York Minster is producing brilliantly executed replacements – like this scary little chap, a new gargoyle. He's on show in the masonry yard in the shadow of the south side of the Minster, where you can see the brilliant masons working away.
How lovely that such skilled artist-craftsmen are still at work. How terrific that York Minster is constantly being revived. And what a treat to get a look at the gargoyles before they are raised high in the air.
